hellocloud photography by Ken Lönnström bio picture

I love painting with words and describing life with pictures!

Born to this world screaming like everyone else, upset about leaving my safe and secure hidingplace. Where ever I looked there were unfamiliar things, peoples and expressions. Something was sounded in my so called ears, which I later understood were words. New places scared me.

As life has moved on I have come to realize that life really is meant to be lived the way you desire, no matter what. You and I, we can overcome all obstacles and live our dreams instead of just creating images of a different life.

At hellocloud you can read my travel stories, look at my photos and read some of my deeper thoughts or even perhaps some poetry. It will fulfill all my needs and hopefully you’ll find something worth reading or gazing at.

Stay happy!

Time to begin

IMG_9581

Yesterday we had worked for 14 days in a row, needless to say that we have been extremely tired most of the time, especially since we also work almost ten hours a day. Fruit picking is a tough and demanding job but we sure enjoy it. Where else do you have your office outdoors in the sunshine and rain?

After work we went straight to the hostel to shower and then we drove a few minutes to Warren District Agricultural Show here in Manjimup. It is quite a big festival down here in the South West. They had a horse riding competition, a cute carnival, live music, motocross shows and one big exhibit hall.

This is a yearly event and it keeps quite a few people occupied, because they work hard in order to prepare something good and out of the ordinary for the exhibit hall. What you can show is your locally grown fruits, vegetables, plants and flowers. You can also show your skills at cooking, painting, sewing, photographing. All of the above are also judged which encourage people to get better and better at what they are doing.

Our friend Shirley at the local video store told me about this show a couple of weeks ago and encouraged me to enter a selection of my photographs. The night before the photos had to be delivered, me and my lovely Jenny were sitting up late working on them. I had gotten them printed the day before but we had to fix some sort of frame around all of them, which ended up being very amusing. I’ll upload pictures of me on Facebook, sitting on the cement floor with a piece of wood and a sharp knife, trying to get the correct size for the frames.

When we came to the exhibit hall I was a bit nervous but we stayed occupied looking at all these beautiful pictures. Imagine the surprised look on my face when I found out that two of my photographs had received second prize in Landscape / Seascape and Monochrome – my two favourite classes!

I’m feeling so proud. Not only because of the prizes but also because I saw people point on my photos to both discuss and compliment them.

Later on when I collected them, the lady working told me about the Monochrome class. There were only two judges and they loved one picture each. They came absolutely nowhere in their discussions so in the end they decided to just flip a coin. Just thought I would let you know about what’s been going on. Now however, it is definitely time to sleep.

Have fun and stay happy!

Brand new start

IMG_3799

For a month now, since we came back to Australia, I’ve been struggling with different things. Dreams, thoughts and visas. That’s just a few of them. Although there has been plenty to do, I have enjoyed every moment of this time. It’s not until it is over, that you can look back and see how far you’ve actually come. Too see for yourself that you have changed, grown and developed yourself.

Also that things often turn out better than you’d expected. My 2nd work visa have been accepted, which means I’m not crippled anymore to just exist. We can go wherever we wan with no consideration that I have to leave the country in three months time, just to come back in a few days.

I have a clearer plan for the future. Instead of no map, I have now made one, showing some of the way to my future that I want to create for myself. In six to seven months me and Jenny are coming back to Sweden. Not to stay permanently, but to gain a much better chance for a permanent Australian or New Zealand citizenship. We are going to study for a few years.

Have finally decided what I want for a career and that is to work with my photography. That’s why I’m considering to study International Marketing, since that’s a big part of being a professional photographer. In my spare time I’ll focus on the photography and also take every opportunity for photo-meetings or that like. Also become more active on some photography communities, everything in order to get more critics and new ideas.

The action picture below is taken by my friend Veronica Orrholm Zentio in August 2008.

Also when we are back in Sweden, we’re gonna have the best of times! Meet friends, whom I often think of, but that I see with too large gaps. Not any more!

One other thing that feels so good today is that hellocloud photography is finally open! I’ve spent so many weeks, just this last month, to work on everything with the blog. The design is new, the structure is new, the pictures are new even for some of the old posts. I do have a few new plugins, which there is probably only one that concerns you guys/gals…

If you are interested in photography and are wondering what settings I’ve used for the pictures… all you have to do is left-click the picture once and then all my settings will show. Click once more and it goes away.

Would you happen to have any thoughts concerning the new blog design or regarding my pictures, please feel free to write. I appreciate honesty.

Now it’s time for bed, but thanks for reading. Take care and stay happy!

A place where you can breath

IMG_5984

From the steep hills
covered in the greenest grass
onto steep hills
covered in the whitest snow
and the dark blue sky

Our feet rested on ice
we gazed out, farther away
than the mountains root
and before our feet slipped
we understood how small we are

To breath the mountains air
was something new and exciting
just wanted to climb higher
reach a new height until we could
and would reach the top

‘Of course you got to take a photo, it’s a tree!’

IMG_5646

Jenny exclaimed after we had stopped for the fourth or fifth time on our way from Cambridge where we had gotten our new haircuts on a very short notice. My love was not irritated with me, it was more of a fact and the funny thing about it is that it’s true. I love trees. I have thought about that earlier but in this moment it was quite clear. I love trees and I love silhouettes of trees. I love using trees to frame a landscape or a person. I love them so much so compare to me you hate them! Sorry, Madagascar and Kancoona joke. :P

We were travelling to Waitomo Caves, which is said to be one of the things you got to do when you are in New Zealand. Approximately 20 km before we came to Waitomo this soon-to-be-dark evening we arrived in a place called Otorohanga. It was like a sign. It even was a sign. A camping sign. We followed it and came to Otorohangas Holiday park. Just as we entered this small camping property the host, Peter, came out although he and his wife were having dinner. He greeted us with an infectious smile. We talked for a few minutes and then we let him go back to supper.

When we had established ourselves and our campervan Bamse we went over to their home and even spent an hour or little more there. Had such a lovely time that we didn’t really want to leave but good manners are deeply rooted in both me and Jenny. :P Peter and his wife Linda are very beautiful and lovely people. Both of them are filled with a life force that is not common. I showed them some of my photographs and they both enjoyed them which meant a lot to me, considering that Peter also have worked as a professional photographer.

Waitomo caves. Wow.

Driving to nowhere in particular

IMG_5462

After our zorb-adventure we had planned on going to Rainbow Springs in Rotorua which is a beautiful spot to watch nature. In the tickets you get a 24h access to the park and they have open til 10 pm. From what I have read they light up everything very nicely so you’ll get a whole different experience.

Unfortunately because of the rain, we skipped that and will take it on our way back to Auckland in the end of the trip. What we did instead was to cruise along some small roads until we got to Matamata where Hobbiton lies. We just wanted to have a look at the place since we’d be returning the day after.

In New Zealand they drive wonderful cars. Both new and old ones. Compared to Australia they don’t seem to be as strict on the whole customizing area. The cars here are modified. So when we parked our campervan Bamse I saw this amazing Dodge Charger and just had to take a photo for my friend Lars-Daniel.

Then our journey for a camping ground began. We drove around for probably for hours. Followed some signs, that ended up in this upperclass village. Anyways, that’s what we expect. It is called Karapiro Village. We drove and drove until we came to a road. And that road was named “Luck At Last Road.” We took a picture and turned. Found the campsite but no manager were there and it was quite expensive so we decided to have a wild camp. Again. Great fun though. :)
